Most people who play Naruto RP games end up losing interest in their character at one point or another in the wipe. This often happens in the realm of C+/B- when development reaches its climax and skillsets near completion or are shut down completely. While most people will whine and quit when they get denied for something they really wanted that is not the key to success. You can scream bias all you want, make a forum post or argue with admins on Discord but it won't change the fact that you're not going to ever get what you were going for once the decision has been set in stone. Anyone original enough will be able to tell you how many times a technique can get denied before you find something that people think fits you. If there's anything you need to learn from this guide it's this:
Build your own character and don't be discouraged.
No matter what happens you should strive to further develop your character and reach a satisfying ending, whatever it may be. That won't always be the case. Some character turn sour and are better recycled in even if they were slated to get a lot of power. You should get a feel of how your development is going on an IC standpoint.
But Jumpy, what the fuck does that mean?
This means a few simple things:
If you've answered "No" to any of those you should fix it. Any person (read: most people) you meet will be able to say Yes to all of those.
Real people have real values. They have dreams and hopes. They have good memories and nightmares that haunt them. If you're not involved enough in your character to the point of being actually sad when something tragic happens in their life then you probably won't get far in these games. People who yell the most about bias are those who understand the least about the importance and impact a character can have over others. If your death does not make someone else emotional on an OOC level I can guarantee you that you won't have a good DR.
That being said, ranting about the investment and effort you can put in a character can only accomplish so much. After all, the IC aspect of character building is only half of the battle to remain interested. What's the other half, you ask?
Plan your progress.
Now that's a lot to think about. You can't really map everything you'll obtain down the line and odds are that your character might die before you ever reach their full potential. However, there is something that you can benefit from a lot, a secret method that very few people actually use. Those who do more often than not will not lose the fire inside to keep pursuing goals. Of course, that can't be true for everyone. Real life can get in the way or you can just lose interest in the plot and story, but having solid goals helps you move forward.
Without further ado, here is how I plan my progress:
This is just an example inspired by someone else's character, but it still holds for anyone. The principle is that you should plan what you want to get at every single grade up. You obviously won't get all that you plan to have, but having more is better than less. You should start making that kind of plan when you reach C/C+ and try to stick with it if possible. Of course it can fail. Let's say you were aiming for toads but your Mexican friend steals them away from you on his DR; that's fine. Just make a new plan, modify yours and think of something new. As long as you have multiple options and things you want to go for at every single grade you should be good to go. You won't get everything. Nobody will realistically get all that is listed hereβ but that's not what it's about. This is about knowing the general direction you're going towards and giving your real life self something to strive for and be passionate about. You should want to play and get stronger. It shouldn't be a pain in the ass.
If you're not able to think about all that you might want to go for just ask your friends what they're going for, it might inspire you.
Anyway, you can't fix what doesn't want to be fixed, but I hope this post will help people who have no idea of where they're going with their character.

This means a few simple things:
Has your character changed personality-wise since you've made them?
Has your character been influenced by other characters?
What is your character's goal? Does he/she have one?

"I want to have two kids.", "I used to be way into polka before I met my girlfriend.", "I was a real picky eater as a kid.".
