We're sort of past the point here where this needs to be a thing. All of our main doctors/medics have hit T2 now, I think it would be perfectly safe for people to be able to pick up T1 First Aid and be able to justify taking care of cuts and bruises. It made sense when we didn't want people encroaching on medic territory, but again, I think we're past that hurdle now.
I think it should just be designated the same "only a profession if you pick up techniques" rule as the others.

I agree with this, though I think it should be considered how far some people might run with first aid to avoid any kind of medical attention from the characters who specialize in it. I also think you should possible phrase yourself better even though I do agree with you, It's not really fair to just look at things from the characters you have now as that's just going to cause issues with new players in the future when they want to join in and become a medical based character.
If first aid became an open perk for anyone to take, I'm generally curious as to what new characters in that profession line would be given to do. Again I agree with the entire point that it should be an open perk, I just want the consequences of that to be more thought out.

They learn medic techniques and have the ability to function as medics by having it take up a profession slot. When D+ comes around, if they so choose, they can upgrade it to T2 Doctor and further their abilities in that regard.
The instant they start picking up medical techniques with the T1 (making it a profession) they're already able to do more than anyone who picks up the T1 without techniques (as it isn't a profession). That would be what new characters in that profession line would be able to do.
As for phrasing myself better... what lmao
