Its your friendly neighbor Coldwave again. After yesterdays, fiasco, I wanted to write up a feedback post about the supposed shonen moments that we are apparently allowed to have and some guidelines that I think would help benefit rp if we got them implemented. However I would like to say this, for the admin whom told me that Shonen moments have been a thing, I have searched for the term in discord announce, the forums and I haven't come across a single post explaining a 'shonen moment' like you claimed. Wont put any names, but please make an announcement since this is obviously a thing, explaining what they are and what can be done with them. Thank you!
Now, onto the real part of the conversation. I feel shonen moments should be allowed, and not only when people are dying. The whole premise of the wipe is -rule of cool-. Im down with it, I really am. Just in moderation unless all parties involved agree on letting shit get extra for funs sake. Yesterdays was too extra for the setting, was cool then went past the cool and entered a realm of 'wait. . . whaaa?' So in order to prevent that I think there could be some guidelines in place, some of which I will be borrowing from AoG since they already had a decent setup for these moments.
First, allow shonen moments to be used once at any time for all characters. There are times when shit should just go off and get epic. Now if someone uses it for something stupid, well they did. The setting, situation and hype of said situation should determine what is or isn't allowed, thus admins have to obviously approve the situation. However, before we get there we need to have a second thing involved.
Approval of all parties involved, or at least the majority on both sides. If this is a goddamn fight, please get approval. This way people don't feel like they are getting shafted for some unknown reason or just straight getting lol grimed. It allows for ooc discussion and a willingness for the extra -cool- before admins sign off on it.
And then, allow it to be used to do basic things without the need of an admin help. Now I don't really mean basic, make it fucking epic on how you do it. Make it the oh shit moment we always dreamed of. Pushing past your reserve limits, dealing increased damage to a previously unhurtable opponent (within reason obv. Please discuss ooc what they would be fine with taking. Don't jump from goddamn scratches to ninja losing an arm or being lethalled when you have no real way to do so.), dodging some shit you wouldn't be able to dodge, or a free get the fuck out doj card that allows your to save your own ass one time, somehow some way.
Make this an actual mechanic in the game that's fun to utilize. And one thing that I think would be fine with everyone too is if you are fighting, doing your hardest and are about to die or something, if you pull out a fucking higher leveled technique, that I think would be fine, as long as there is logical reason for it to happen. Ex. Naruto getting ass handed to him. Has been working on rasengan, hasn't mastered rasengan. Then he is about to die or seems like it, uses rasengan once t blast someone away. Or hell, someone whom uses doton a lot gets to use a really cool doton A rank once as they use up the majority of their skill and power. Admins would have to approve on the tech obviously but that should be fine, cool even. Even a buff because its their final battle before they go. That's chill. But one buff, small, not dropping +2 str, +1 speed, +1 as on someone. That's +4 to overall stats. . . . eh, too much imo. Unless obviously all parties agree in which case everyone else just sits back and watches the show without anyone involved feeling a certain type of way. They agreed to whatever was going to happen, end of story. But as far as shonen moments go that characters have a say in/can control or ask for I think this is where the limit should be.
Now if admins want to grant a shonen moment without anyone asking for it, then that's another story I feel. Then someone is being buffed for excellent roleplay I feel to use in a scenario and beyond. That's called the MC vibe. Someone is doing so dgood that alright they can get something no one else can. That's something we see in rp all the time and I feel would be well received. Make an event out of it or at least have some reasoning ic and logically that brings out said attribute/buff. If that happens then great, im sure the playerbase will accept it with open arms without the fiasco that happened yesterday.
