Before I break down my parts and pieces, I want to open up this thread right here and now to anyone who has personally felt themselves slighted or had opinions, of the management team and systems they've put in place, that go against the grain. I certainly have my own gripes and complaints and ideas... And after playing both wipes of the ninja game so far, I'm seeing a lot of problems from last wipe that just came back to bite us in the butt again once we've come full circle.
So I open this thread up to anyone who has something to say to improve our experience, because as things are right now that player base number just keeps dropping. Change seems needed, driven players desired, and ideas welcome. Don't be afraid to speak your mind, because I sure as hell won't be.
This wipe was introduced to us in the beginning as a fast paced, quick action wipe where rewards would be a lot higher and other things would be afforded to us in more plentiful quantity. And whether Darwin was the one who started the trend with his initial plan to make the wipe 4 months long and conclude somewhere on A- or A flat grounds or not; Every single player who's received more than five or six checks knows that this wipe's points run really fast, and that's a good thing! With our points scaling fast and getting out of control quick, it leaves a lot to be desired when we're able to collect our paycheck every week and cash in up to 7 points on a few B-Ranks or an A-Rank. Rewards being more and more free was such a wonderful idea and it's left a lot of the bland power scale upwards from DRing or new players leagues more tolerable than before.
... But as a wipe now coming into the conclusion of it's fifth month alive, ranks being slow has left all of those points with seemingly no further sky to reach for. Let me elaborate.
Because of this wipe's relative speed, there is a lot more interesting avenues to explore. Going into the wipe early, being told that it would be accelerated and faster than normal lead me to believe two things. 1.) That unique thresholds we never reach such as Mangekyou or a V2 Jinchuriki or a fully fledged Sage would finally be a reality! 2.)Reaching A+ or around there could finally be a dream come true! But.. They weren't. These things you reach on the upper ends of a character's life weren't as reachable as I thought. The longer we went on, the more critical rank ups seemed to get. I understand that not everyone can be an A- or A flat shinobi with a very strong skillset they've honed over the course of the entire wipe, but just like last wipe a mass of the strongest players on the game clumped up very hard and very fast. Grandiose uniques on the higher level weren't possible when rank ups were choked and held back so intensely, and suddenly every shinobi on the game was B flat, B-, or C+.
Generation 1 wasn't Generation 1 anymore, as Generation 3 caught up and surpassed them far sooner than maybe they should've. It really seems like the fear behind those higher tiers is present, either that or the standards of the admin team based on a quick wipe are far too high. Things like, "You haven't earned your next rank up" aren't things a Generation 1 or 2 player should be hearing when Generation 3 and 4 have already caught them- And based on the increased points being a +2, clumping happens FASTER. Suddenly, everyone is the same, with the same rank, and same amount of uniques, but their generations are wildly different. And with the timeskip coming up? Cutting points for the guys in front? That's going to accelerate clumping of the playerbase. Things are no longer linear, and real progress like early wipe is now non-existent.
tl;dr Rank Ups past B have become exceedingly difficult, which bodes horribly for anything in the A- and beyond range, which bodes horribly for grandiose uniques and player power in a "fast paced wipe." The entire player base has clumped up into one massive category and there's no hope in reaching beyond as things are. Cutting rewards from the strongest characters clumps us up faster. Suggested Solution: Ease up, create bigger gaps and more rewards for lower generation players in the future. Don't clump players up by the last thing that makes us individuals: PP count. Please don't slash the higher end of rewards, if you want to clump... Increase the little guy's rewards to 12, not slash the top. No one likes to slow down.
The game as it is right now currently has no systems in place whatsoever for A-, A, and A+. As soon as you've hit A-, you now unlock every single T4 in the game for your picking. This in and of itself makes A- such a brutally ugly thing to ever want to give a player, and can be fixed by streamlining the ranks in the future past B+. Once again, in our quickened wipe, we really shouldn't be just now hitting B+ at the same time as last wipe did. Five months in, we are in exactly the same place as last wipe was. Down to the months. This is an issue for admins who already have a chokehold on higher and future power.
The fact is that right now, we have absolutely no systems for generational scaling, generational boundaries, and the only thing that even comes close to a difference is the distance between PP totals that grow as the generations get bigger and bigger. Slashing the higher percent of player's rewards makes everything and everyone homogeneous, which is boring and hurts the game far more than it helps. Where before we played the game day in and day out as a D+ ninja to one day get Toad Summons and reach large summons, we no longer have any goals to aspire to because they're impossible to reach before the game itself dies by players losing interest. Progression is fucked, and desperately needs to be fixed and really thought about before the admin team moves through this next timeskip.
Unfortunately, there is a reason why the game is dying and losing players at critical rate. What we have right now is the players we'll likely keep, as I don't imagine those we've lost coming back any time soon. They wanted change, so they brought it themselves. WoN needs change right now, or wipe 2 is as good as dead.
tl;dr There are absolutely no systems in place for ranks past B+, which makes A- the final frontier for unfuckwithable power. Reaching this is almost impossible because of that. We have scaled absolutely no faster than last wipe has, and our PP rewards have been much bigger all wipe. Progression really needs to be thought about before moving forward, because as things are the game's future is not looking good. Suggested Solution: Work with one another and the players as well to put in systems and thresholds for as far as A+, such as T4s only fully unlocked at A+, or special perks afforded to A. A- allowing 3 T4s instead of all. Etc.
The last point to really go over and stress is the state of the game as it is right now. I think we should stop announcing timeskips one week in advance,as that encourages people to log out or not do anything for the entire week leading up to the timeskip in fear of grime or otherwise. Because timeskips are 100% completely static, why should I care at all about doing anything in the week leading up to it? With how tightly the admins are restricting further power, it isn't like you'd land that unique or rank up you've been wanting / waiting for anyway. All of this builds up into de-motivation.
I've listed this as the last few things to bring up because they are entirely variable leading up to the timeskip. As we are now, we dip below 30 players every day for a majority of the day. We really, really can't sustain two villages anymore. Most of Konoha wants to quit, and we've already seen a lot of that occur with the drop in those player's activity. As things are right now, it truly does seem like admins don't care enough to keep players on the game who're playing in the here and now. That doesn't mean sucking dick, but it certainty doesn't mean going radio static when people are massively unhappy. Something's gotta' be done, and hopefully quick because I really don't want to see this wipe go under, and I haven't seen any kind of discussion about helping it or pulling it from the grave. If one of those changes involves merging the villages, player conflict can run much more freely than angry letters between 2 hour map travels and village wars we're deathly afraid of. It's more RP as usual.
final tl;dr Don't announce timeskips a week or two in advance if it's static. The game's population is dropping, people are losing interest. Something has to be done if the interest continues to plummet after the upcoming timeskip, something we normally reserve for increasing the playerbase. Two villages are unsustainable as things are, and with population < 30, we are splitting the people who want to play between two probably dead villages which will make people want to quit even more. Suggested Solution: Merge the two villages with plot that makes sense, encourage Amegakure versus Konohagakure in the same village for closely related player conflict. Allow us to reach the higher end of the Naruto power threshold, and be more liberal with power in the coming weeks. It's different, it'll draw interest.
World of Ninjas really, really can't go on much longer without an active push from Eventmins, Admins, and Players alike. If you have any suggestions or gripes, please feel free to post below. I personally don't want to see it go out without a satisfying finish. Don't let this wipe die like every other NRP wipe before it. Break the mold, be something different. Be better.
